Mythological Theory Behind The Origin of Boga Lake:

According to the local Bom tribe, Boga Lake was created by a dragon named Boga. The legend tells that Boga lived in a cave on the hill where the lake now is, and that it would attack and eat the livestock and children of the nearby villages. One day, a group of brave young men killed the dragon, but its dying breath caused the hill to collapse and form the lake. (click here for full story)

Science Behind The Origin of Boga Lake:

There is some wrong informations that suggests that, Boga Lake was formed by a volcanic eruption or the collapse of a meteorite crater. The shape of the lake looks like a crater of a volcano, which might give an immediate impression of its origin by volcanic process,However, there is no evidence of any volcanoes in Bangladesh.

Recent experiments have found submerged trees in the lake floor. The presence of submerged trees on the lake edges and floor is evidence that Boga Lake is not of volcanic origin.

Microfossil evidences (diatom) and C 14 results suggest the varying rates and direction of monsoon intensity and its cycles of intense torrential rainfalls events during the late Holocene period. From the experiment it is seen that, the lake was not formed by volcanoes. Instead, the lake was formed by earthquakes and heavy rains. The earthquakes caused landslides and mass-movements, which blocked the valleys and created the lake.
